Ragtag Film Society

Ragtag Film Society (RFS) is the heart of Columbia's vibrant independent film scene. With cinema as a focal point, we exist to captivate and engage communities in immersive arts experiences that explore assumptions and elicit shared joy, wonder, and introspection.

Ragtag Cinema is a year-round, two-screen theater that shows new independent arthouse releases and archival films to hundreds of patrons daily, and the annual True/False Film Fest, is a four-day, nine-screen, immersive multimedia event that brings together nonfiction filmmakers, artists, musicians, and audiences for a unique, creative experience in Columbia, MO. 

Your donation is vital in sustaining the cultural and economic contributions RFS makes to Mid-Missouri:

• Year-Round Cultural Hub: Ragtag Cinema is a two-screen arthouse that shows new independent releases and repertory films to hundreds of patrons daily. Without us, residents would have to travel to St. Louis or Kansas City for this experience.

• Economic Impact: The annual True/False Film Fest contributes close to $2 million to the local economy of Columbia, MO each year.

• Media Literacy & Education: We engage nearly 3,000 students, teachers, and community members annually, including a completely free summer camp for high schoolers focused on different creative multimedia approaches and critical thinking.

• Filmmaker Support: RFS co-hosts the Rough Cut Retreat each year in partnership with Catapult Film Fund. This is a high-level mentorship program that to-date has supported 50 film projects and filmmakers with bold and ambitious visions.

We serve over 55,000 people each year, and our identity is shaped by the hands and hearts of local residents.
