Barnies Place

Founded in 2020, Barnie’s Place Feline Rescue is committed to improving the lives of cats throughout mid-Missouri. We bring together passionate volunteers and compassionate adopters to create a community where every feline—stray, feral, senior, or medically fragile—can experience safety, comfort, and love. We invest deeply in every animal in our care, meeting their medical, emotional, and social needs with patience and compassion.

Barnie’s Place was created in memory of Barnie, a determined cat first trapped in 2015 whose resilience continues to inspire our work. Our mission is simple and heartfelt: to provide comprehensive care and loving homes for cats who are stray or feral, living with complex medical needs, or considered “unadoptable” elsewhere. By intentionally limiting the number of cats we accept, we ensure that each one receives personalized attention, veterinary care, and a true quality of life. To us, cats are family.

Our vision is to establish a physical sanctuary called Barnie’s Place—a welcoming space that works in tandem with dedicated foster homes and adoptive families. This sanctuary would offer consistency, safety, and comfort for cats with special circumstances, including those who are FIV+, FELV+, semi-feral, elderly, or living with chronic conditions that require long-term care.

A major component of our work is Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). We humanely trap, sterilize, and return outdoor cats to their colonies to reduce suffering and stabilize populations. We also educate caretakers and communities on the many benefits of TNR and collaborate closely with partner organizations to help as many outdoor cats as possible. Friendly strays and kittens enter our adoption program and find loving, permanent homes.

Biffany arrived with an underdeveloped, painful eye that required surgical removal. After her enucleation surgery and healing period, she blossomed in foster care and is now thriving in a loving home. Her journey is a reminder that every life we touch is worth saving, and that compassionate care transforms outcomes for even the most vulnerable cats.
