Help us build Columbia's first no-kill animal shelter in Boone County and the Mid-Missouri region.  This historic initiative represents a major step forward in animal welfare for the community, offering safe, compassionate, and lifesaving care for countless animals in need.

Founded on the belief that every animal deserves a chance at a healthy and loving life, Boone County Animal Care has been serving the community through foster-based programs and volunteer support since 2012.   With the establishment of a permanent no-kill shelter, the organization will expand its ability to provide medical treatment, adoption services, and long-term care for vulnerable animals while strengthening community partnerships in animal rescue and advocacy.

With a new shelter in the works, we would be focusing on existing commercial properties so we can tailor it to our needs and move in ASAP.  BCAC would intake ALL animals and no longer just cats from Boone County.

The new shelter would include more space for animals and less cages, cat colonies and dog play groups.  The new shelter would be made to feel like home instead of a prison.  Advanced life saving techniques would be implemented by working with local rescues and organizations to get animals back home.   The new facility will be a community resource dedicated to managing and reducing animal overpopulation.  Providing help to families that need extra support with food, spay & neuter services, education, vaccines, ect.  Having a working TNR program and an actual low cost spay and neuter program so individuals can afford to get their pets fixed.

The capital campaign seeks to raise three million dollars to purchase property, construct and equip the shelter and establish operational funding to ensure long-term sustainability.  Boone County Animal Care invites individuals, businesses, and community partners to join in making this vision a reality.

Boone County Animal Care is a 501c3 non-profit animal welfare organization located in Columbia, Missouri. We are an entirely foster-based organization whose passion is improving the lives of animals in our community. We provide care to kittens and cats of all ages and physical condition until they are successfully adopted into a family home!

We believe that all cats matter!

Boone County Animal Care (BCAC) is dedicated to helping cats find and stay in loving homes. A significant focus of our group is trap, spay/neuter, and return (TNR) as an effort to reduce the overpopulation of cats and kittens in our community.  TNR  significantly improves the overall health of the cats in the community, reduces the number of animal intakes to local shelters and, over time, will make an impact on the number of feral and uncared for pets.

We also give many of our cats a second chance at life by saving them from euthanizing shelters.

Each year, we help hundreds of cats that are primarily strays, injured, or feral cats and kittens.  We also work with hoarding situations and kill shelters, we pull many cats to safety on euthanasia lists.   It’s important to our mission to decrease the number of cats in our area by providing spay/neuter surgeries to not only our adopted cats but also the community cats that we trap. It is not possible to provide these surgeries without sufficient fundraising efforts. Our community greatly benefits from the work we do by decreasing the number of euthanized and homeless cats in Mid-Missouri.  If people cannot afford spay and neuter services, BCAC will pay for those to be done.

Funds received would be used for spay and neuter surgeries, routine medical care as well as extraordinary care that is needed for cats to have a quality of life such as amputations, dentals, and declaw repairs.  We supply food, litter, medications and vaccinations to our foster homes so they are not burdened with the cost of caring for them while in their home.   Unfortunately, the cost of everything has gone up.  Last year we had to raise our adoption fee to $100. We refuse to go higher so adopters can still afford to adopt.  This means we are having to supplement funds due to this. It costs over $100 to get one cat ready for adoption and $85.00 just to get one cat fixed.   $80 would cover the cost of two TNR surgeries.   $60 would almost cover 3 bags of food. $100 would cover the cost of 6 rabies vaccines. $100 would sponsor the cost of one cat adoption. It is not possible to provide these surgeries without sufficient fundraising efforts.

BCAC is an ALL volunteer rescue which means 100% of your donations goes directly to helping cats in need!
