At the Boone County History & Culture Center, we’re the caretakers of those stories —

preserving the past while inspiring the next generation to imagine our future.

Since 1924, we’ve collected the artifacts, art, and memories that tell the story of our shared home.


But we’re more than a museum —

we’re a living hub where history, art, and culture bring people together.

• Inspiring Young Minds: Every Columbia Public Schools 5th grader visits the Center each year. Through our Boone Youth Explorers program, students connect with local history, sparking curiosity, creativity, and pride in where they come from.

• Celebrating Local Creativity: From the Walters History Galleries to the Montminy Art Gallery, our exhibits showcase the stories and artistry that make Boone County unique.

• Preserving Beloved Landmarks: Maplewood House, The Village, and River-Horse Pavilion aren’t just historic sites — they’re spaces where neighbors gather, learn, and celebrate together.

• Connecting the Community: Our “Things That Matter” Speaker Series and concerts on the historic Blind Boone piano create shared moments that remind us what we value most — connection, creativity, and understanding.
