Jabberwocky makes opportunity into an art.

By overcoming barriers to programming in the arts and education, we offer children an opportunity to live their richest lives- no matter what their circumstances. 

Dance Instruction

We teach hip hop, break dance, ballet, tap, Bollywood dance and contemporary African dance. We overcome barriers by offering an unlimited number of needs-based tuition waivers, and free transportation for some classes.

The Art Bus

We overcome barriers by bringing weekly free art projects to children in Columbia's poorest neighborhoods. In 2023, 724 children created 1089 art projects at the Art Bus.

Public Murals

Each year, Jabberwocky beautifies areas of low income, or where there are marginalized populations, with custom tailored murals. Paid youth interns from the City of Columbia CARE program design and install the murals with guidance from our lead artist.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)

 All strands of STEAM are integrated through thematic projects during 52 hours of free programming annually. Transportation is provided. In 2023 we served 26 children from 6 countries.

Theater

Children’s theater camps and productions use focused outreach and offer tuition waivers to engage diverse participants. Each year we produce one musical and one play that is written, cast, costumed, designed and performed by our students. Transportation is provided. Each of our productions has featured a majority minority cast.

English Learner In-school Art

Jabberwocky provides one hour of art instruction and supplies weekly during the school day for children in Oakland Middle School’s Newcomer Program. In the spring of 2024 we served three classrooms including 60 children, most of whom are refugees.
