MISSION STATEMENT

Mid-Missouri Legal Services provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people, domestic and sexual violence survivors, and other vulnerable populations in central Missouri.  We seek to expand access to justice despite the encumbrances of poverty.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Together, our community can address the access to justice gap. Supporting MMLS with a financial gift through the CoMoGives campaign you are making a commitment to your fellow Missourians.  A 2022 study found that low-income Americans go without any legal assistance or receive inadequate assistance with 92% of their legal problems.

Your gift supports Mid-Missouri Legal Services' operations and provision of legal services.   Your gift can help:

• a domestic violence survivor separate safely from her abuser with an attorney at her side in court;
• a family avoid eviction and homelessness when an attorney negotiates a favorable settlement with a landlord;
• an individual with disabilities meet his basic needs after an attorney successfully challenges a wrongful termination of SSI; and
• tenants and consumers know their legal rights and available legal resources so they can take action when they are taken advantage of and treated unlawfully.

The Board of Directors and Staff of Mid-Missouri Legal Services Corporation are committed to achieving full access to justice in civil matters for central Missourians, including men, women, children, domestic violence survivors, disabled, blind, elderly, rural, urban, of all ethnic backgrounds, lineage and religious beliefs, who cannot afford to hire an attorney, by providing free legal services ranging from advice and brief services to extended representation in court and administrative hearings.  Our goal is to ensure that lack of personal finances, remoteness of location, and the encumbrances of poverty do not preclude anyone from their right to have redress of serious legal matters.
