The Missouri Organic Association (MOA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to fostering a sustainable and ecologically sound food system. Founded in 1993 by Missouri's organic farming community, MOA has grown into a network of farmers, chefs, gardeners, health professionals, and individuals who are committed to supporting organic agriculture, healthy food, and a healthy planet. Through education, outreach, and partnerships, we provide guidance and resources for those transitioning to organic production and work to inspire and empower sustainable practices across Missouri.
MOA’s mission is simple yet impactful: to inspire, support, and empower through ecological organic principles. We believe in sustainable systems that improve our food supply and restore balance to our environment. Whether you’re a farmer, gardener, or consumer, we invite you to join us in promoting a resilient food system that supports the well-being of our planet and all who inhabit it.
Each year, the MOA Conference and Annual Meeting, known as the Mid-America Organic Conference, brings together stakeholders to explore the latest in organic farming and sustainable food production. This event has been successfully held across Missouri for the past 14 years in Hartsburg, Missouri, making it accessible to farmers and advocates statewide.
MOA also works closely with the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) to help farmers gain organic certification. Through TOPP, we connect experienced organic producers with farmers who are new to organic practices, providing hands-on guidance, resources, and a path to certification. This mentorship program simplifies the certification process, linking practical field practices to NRCS standards and supporting farmers every step of the way.
In addition to TOPP, MOA supports the MO Biochar Based Climate-Smart Markets Project, a pioneering initiative that helps farmers turn agricultural waste into biochar—a valuable soil amendment that enhances soil health, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and supports climate-smart practices. This three-year project, developed in partnership with Missouri State University, Lincoln University, and industry leaders, provides on-farm biochar production with the mobile “Carbonizer” machine and offers direct technical and marketing assistance to Missouri farms.
Together, we can promote sustainable food systems and make a lasting impact on our communities and the environment. Support MOA’s mission and help us inspire change. Join us in our work toward a healthier, more sustainable future for all!
