💛 What Your Gift Supports

When you give through a Voluntary Action Center (VAC) peer-to-peer fundraiser, you’re doing far more than making a donation — you’re helping your Boone County neighbors through some of life’s hardest moments.

Every dollar you give is a lifeline for someone in crisis. It might help a parent put food on the table after losing a job, a senior afford critical medication, or a family find stability after experiencing homelessness. Through your generosity, people facing tough circumstances are met with compassion, respect, and hope.

At VAC, we believe that when one neighbor thrives, we all thrive. For more than 50 years, we’ve been a bridge between those who need help and those who have the heart to give it. Each year, thousands of Boone County residents turn to VAC for support when they have nowhere else to go — whether that means emergency assistance for rent or transportation, access to hygiene items, diapers, or gas cards, or help navigating complex systems to find long-term stability.

Your donation provides more than material assistance. It reminds people that their community sees them, values them, and believes in their ability to rebuild. Every person who walks through our doors deserves to be treated with dignity — and thanks to donors like you, that’s exactly what happens.

When you give through a peer-to-peer campaign, you’re also joining a movement of local people who care deeply about their community. You’re helping your friends, coworkers, and family members spread the message that kindness and compassion still matter — and that together, we can make sure no one in Boone County faces hardship alone.

Here’s what your impact might look like:

  • $25 can provide gas to get to a medical appointment or job interview.

  • $50 can fill a pantry with groceries for a family who just got back on their feet.

  • $100 can help cover a prescription that a neighbor can’t afford.

  • $250 can prevent an eviction and keep a family safely housed.

Every gift, no matter the size, builds hope.

We’ve seen what happens when this community shows up for one another. We’ve seen people like Lesley, who came to VAC after years of struggle. With support from the community and our housing team, she received a voucher just in time to move into her own apartment — the same day she was set to time out from the local shelter. A year later, when we visited her for a follow-up, she had just paid her rent on her own for the very first time and interviewed for a new job with better pay and more responsibility. That kind of transformation is what your giving makes possible.

This is what community looks like — people helping people, neighbors lifting neighbors, generosity turning into stability, dignity, and second chances.

By supporting a peer-to-peer fundraiser for Voluntary Action Center, you’re not just donating to a cause — you’re taking part in a story of resilience and renewal that unfolds every day in our community. Together, we can ensure that more families experience hope instead of hardship, and that no one in Boone County has to face their challenges alone.

Thank you for standing with VAC and the people we serve. Your compassion is the heartbeat of our mission — and the reason our neighbors have a place to turn when life gets hard.
