Designed for youth ages 7–15, this year’s program is built to expand horizons, strengthen life skills, and provide unforgettable experiences that inspire confidence, leadership, and hope.
Last year we were able to take our youth to the George Washington Carver Museum, the St. Louis City Museum, the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, amongst other places of learning. Our 2026 summer calendar features major educational and cultural trips including Kentucky, St. Louis, Kansas City, and key attractions throughout Missouri. These experiences are intentionally crafted to expose youth to new environments, historical learning opportunities, and positive memories that reinforce healthy development.
This summer also launches our new "Skills-Building Barbering & Hair Braiding Program", providing hands-on training for youth interested in grooming, programming to provide skills for a heat press operator, entrepreneurship, and the art of personal presentation. This program introduces practical skill sets that can spark career pathways and encourage creativity and discipline.
We are equally proud to introduce a 10-week Financial Literacy Series powered by the nationally recognized "Young Money All-Stars" curriculum by Dominic Haynes. To kick off the series, Mr. Haynes will join our youth via Zoom to personally inspire them and prepare them for the journey ahead. Students will learn budgeting, credit building, savings, investing basics, and real-world financial decision-making.
In addition to core programming, youth will participate in local recreational activities, mentorship circles, academic enrichment, the City of Columbia's Civics Program, leadership development sessions, and weekly community involvement events.
The 2026 Summer Program reflects the Center's ongoing commitment to ensuring that every young person in Boone County has access to meaningful opportunities that build resilience, purpose, and a bright future. In collaboration with the City of Columbia, we will be hiring several youth, ages 16-17, through the CARE Program.
