The American Kestrel, North America’s smallest falcon, is losing ground. Across Missouri and beyond, kestrels face shrinking grasslands, competition from invasive species, and a serious shortage of natural nesting cavities. MRBO’s American Kestrel Nest Box Monitoring Project builds hope where it’s needed most — providing safe, strategically placed nest boxes and the long-term monitoring that allows this beloved species to rebound.

When you support the Kestrel Nest Box Project, you’re powering the on-the-ground work that turns habitat into opportunity. Your gift helps volunteers and MRBO staff place and maintain nest boxes, check on active nests, band young birds, and collect vital data that strengthens conservation efforts statewide. This is hands-on, measurable impact: every well-maintained nest box increases the chances that a kestrel pair can breed successfully and that their young will fledge into the Missouri skies.

Kestrels can’t wait — and right now, your gift goes twice as far. Susan Lordi Marker, who purchased the very first nest box for MRBO’s project and celebrated its first successful clutch, is generously matching all donations up to $10,000. Thank you to some of our current supporters we have already reached 25% of our goal! Your support provides materials, maintenance, predator guards, and protection from invasive starlings — everything these spirited falcons need to thrive.

By giving today, you’re not just supporting a project; you’re helping secure the future of kestrels across Missouri. Double your impact for kestrels and help more young falcons take flight.
